FAQ
Questions worth asking.
1. What exactly is InkWell?
InkWell is a browser-based writing workspace for drafting, revision, tone adjustments, citation formatting, and long-form organization. The plans differ by document limits, revision capacity, checks, and collaboration features.
2. Do I need to install anything?
No separate installation is required for the web editor. Open InkWell in a supported modern browser and sign in to your account.
3. How does the 14-day free trial work?
The trial lasts 14 days and requires no credit card. Nothing is charged during the trial, and you can cancel before the trial ends without a charge.
4. How do I get access after purchase?
Your subscription is activated through an emailed activation code. The delivery line on the plan pages states Instant delivery — activation code by email, typically within 5 minutes.
5. Does it work offline?
Desktop users can keep offline drafts available locally when a connection is unavailable. Sync and account changes require an internet connection when you return online.
6. Which browsers and devices?
InkWell is designed for modern browsers including Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox. Supported use includes Windows and macOS environments, with access from current desktop and mobile browsers.
7. What's the difference between the four plans?
Scribe is designed for notes and drafts, Essayist adds more documents, plagiarism checks, and citation formatting, Novelist adds long-form organization and larger revision capacity, and Press adds publication workspaces, team style guides, and collaborative editorial controls.
8. Can I upgrade or downgrade?
Yes. You can change plans later, with billing adjustments calculated on a prorated basis according to the applicable plan change and billing cycle.
9. How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancellation is available from account settings in a production account. There is no cancellation fee, and access continues through the current paid billing period.
10. What is your refund policy?
InkWell offers a full refund within 30 days of a payment, no questions asked. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method within 5-7 business days.
11. Who owns what I write?
You retain full ownership of everything you write with InkWell. Your work is not transferred to InkWell as a condition of using the service, and supported document exports allow you to keep complete copies of your work.
12. Will AI rewriting sound like me?
Tone profiles can be configured from your own sample passages so that rewrite suggestions reflect the qualities you choose. The suggestions are editing assistance, and you remain responsible for reviewing every change.
13. What does the plagiarism checker compare against?
The checker can compare supported text against public web sources and supported academic material. Like any automated comparison system, it has limitations and should be treated as an additional review rather than a final academic or publishing judgment.
14. What citation styles are supported?
InkWell supports APA, MLA, and Chicago formatting on the plans that include citation tools. Check the plan comparison for the level of formatting access included with each subscription.
15. What are collaboration seats?
Collaboration seats are additional people who can work within the same subscription workspace. Novelist includes 3 seats, while Press includes 10 seats for publication teams.
