LEGAL
End User License Agreement
Last updated: May 1, 2025
1. License grant
Subject to an active subscription and compliance with the selected plan, InkWell grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the software functions made available to your account. The license lasts for the applicable subscription period and remains subject to the document, AI, checking, citation, and collaboration limits shown before purchase.
2. Your writing
You retain full ownership of everything you write with InkWell. Your documents, drafts, notes, outlines, and other original material remain yours. InkWell does not receive ownership of your text simply because the software stores, displays, or processes it while delivering an enabled product feature. You remain responsible for determining whether your writing can lawfully be used, shared, or published.
3. AI assistance
AI rewriting and writing assistance are optional product functions on supported plans. They can provide alternative wording, tone adjustments, grammar and style suggestions, structure ideas, or citation-formatting assistance. Suggestions should be reviewed before submission or publication. The service does not guarantee that generated text is factually correct, original in every respect, or appropriate for every audience, assignment, or publishing context.
4. Appropriate use
You may not reproduce the software interface for resale, interfere with service availability, abuse account access, or use the service for unlawful activity. AI assistance must not be used to intentionally disguise plagiarism, evade plagiarism detectors, or misrepresent authorship. If a school, employer, publisher, or other organization has its own rules for assisted writing, you are responsible for following those rules.
5. External sources
Citation tools, comparison checks, and reference features may rely on source collections outside InkWell. Coverage can change and no automated checker is complete. Users should inspect the cited material, confirm the reference details, and decide whether a source is appropriate for the intended work. A formatting suggestion is not a substitute for understanding the style guide or source itself.
6. Collaboration seats
Collaboration seats are governed by the plan selected at purchase. Novelist includes three seats and Press includes ten seats. A team administrator should assign access only to people authorized to work inside the subscription workspace and should remove access when a contributor is no longer participating in the relevant project.
7. Termination
The license ends when the subscription is cancelled and the applicable access period ends, unless another written agreement or applicable law requires otherwise. InkWell may suspend access for security concerns, abuse, non-payment, or material breach of this agreement. When appropriate, a user may be given information about the reason for a suspension or the steps needed to resolve it.
8. Exports and preservation
Users are encouraged to export important writing regularly using supported formats. Exports are a preservation mechanism and do not transfer ownership away from the writer. Maintaining an independent copy is especially useful for manuscripts, academic work, and publication archives because it provides a separate recovery path if access to the online workspace becomes unavailable for any reason.
